Mulgundawa to Tungkillo Biodiversity Links

This project is supported by the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board through funding from the landscape levies.

The Objective

The Mulgundawa to Tungkillo Biodiversity Links Project is an extension and merging of our previous projects, Mulgundawa to Monarto South and Monarto to Tungkillo Biodiversity Links projects.

With a combined 5 years of habitat restoration work across the two previous projects, this landscape-scale habitat restoration project is reconnecting vital native vegetation from Mulgundawa to Tungkillo and east to the Murray River.

Building on years of proven on-ground works, we are partnering with local landholders to restore remnant vegetation, establish high-quality revegetation, and strengthen biodiversity corridors for threatened flora and fauna.

Activities for 2025/26…

  • Improve diversity and structure within 193 Hectares of remnant and revegetated sites by planting 6,500 local provenance seedlings and undertake targeted weed control and habitat manipulation works to offer greater opportunities for food and habitat resources for wildlife and encourage natural regeneration within 381 Hectares.

  • Direct seed 15km of machine direct seeding over 5Ha

  • Undertake site assessments for all revegetation sites to document and collect information for site planning

  • Monitor works and progress utilising fixed photo points

  • Provide technical information to the network and harness the motivation of landholders to incrementally increase on-ground habitat restoration and reconstruction into the future.

  • Hold workshops and events to bring project site owners together and share learnings. Events include a Woodland Bird Guided Walk, a Seed Collection workshop and planting event.

  • Continue to connect with landholders and groups of landholders, understand their needs and the opportunities and constraints to implementing habitat restoration and reconstruction at property and landscape scales while also continuing to build a functioning network.
