Boosting Backyard Biodiversity in Mount Barker with Wildlife Gardening 2026

Mount Barker native plant packs sold out fast, boosting backyard biodiversity across the region

It was wonderful to see so many locals collecting their Mount Barker Wildlife Gardening plant packs on Saturday, with all 200 subsidised packs finding new homes across the district.

From small gardens to larger backyards, every planting helps create habitat, support local wildlife, and bring more biodiversity into our community.

It was a busy morning at the nursery, with staff and volunteers chatting with residents about the locally native species included in the packs and sharing tips on planting and caring for the seedlings.

The Mount Barker Wildlife Gardening program is a long-running partnership focused on encouraging wildlife-friendly gardens and increasing the use of local native plants throughout the region.

Missed out this year? You can still start planting local natives at home. The community nursery is open Thursdays from 9am–4pm at 100 Springs Road, Mount Barker, with a fantastic range of species available

The Alexandrina Greening and Wildlife project is a collaboration between Alexandrina Council and Second Nature, and is funded by Alexandrina Council.
