Backyards for Biodiversity… growing community, together
Over the past 12 weeks, 30 south coast locals have come together to connect with nature - and each other- through our Backyards for Biodiversity series.
From learning about birds, butterflies and bees, to discovering how even the smallest spaces can support nature, each session has been about nurturing habitat at home and strengthening our connection to the natural world.
We celebrated the final workshop by sharing local native plant packs, ready to be planted out into backyards across the region - small actions that, together, create a bigger impact for biodiversity. Thank you to Ben and the volunteers at Alexandrina Community Nursery for propagating and caring for the plants, and to Cittaslow for bringing some extra plants on the night.
Led by Hannah from @HabitatConnectionCo, the series was met with wonderful feedback, receiving a 100% “Excellent” rating, with every participant saying they would recommend it to a friend.
What really grew over the program was a sense of community. People sharing knowledge, stories and a genuine care for creating spaces where nature can thrive.
And this is just the beginning. With more workshops, native plant packs and opportunities to get involved this year, we look forward to continuing to grow this community of people caring for nature - right at home.
