A morning well spent at Tolderol!
Not a breath of wind, beautiful conditions and plenty of birds to spot… today’s guided walk at Tolderol was a lovely way to get out and reconnect with this important wetland reserve.
Led by local bird expert John Gitsham, we explored a few different bays to see what was making itself known. Together, we recorded 24 bird species, including Pied Stilts and Golden-headed Cisticolas.
And then came the ahhhh moment… A Black Swan with five fluffy cygnets in tow!
With migratory waterbirds beginning to make their way back to the region, it was also a great opportunity to talk about why places like Tolderol are so important. These wetlands provide critical feeding and resting habitat for waterbirds, including species that travel incredible distances during their annual migrations.
It was especially lovely to see everyone enjoying the reserve again, with all participants having visited Tolderol previously, just a reminder that sometimes the best way to appreciate a special place is to slow down, look a little closer and see what’s living there.
🌿 Helping our community understand, appreciate and care for these important natural places is a big part of what we do at Second Nature Conservancy - connecting people with nature while building greater awareness of the biodiversity we’re working to protect.
And of course… we’ll never say no to a morning spent looking at birds.
The nature education program is seeded by Green Adelaide.
