Introducing the Healthy Urban Waterways – Mount Barker and Fleurieu South Coast project

Big News! A new 3-year project is kicking off across Mount Barker, Goolwa, Port Elliot & Victor Harbor!

Introducing the Healthy Urban Waterways – Mount Barker and Fleurieu South Coast project.

Together with our delivery partners, we’ll be restoring over 45 hectares / 10.8 km of precious waterways and wetlands in some of SA’s fastest growing urban areas.

Key outcomes of the project include;

  • Removing invasive weeds

  • Planting 22,000+ local natives

  • Creating habitat for the endangered Yarra Pygmy Perch

  • Establishing tree canopy to reduce evaporation & create microclimates along exposed sections of watercourses

    All native seedlings will be grown at community nurseries managed by Second Nature in Mount Barker, Goolwa & Clayton Bay.

    This is about creating healthier ecosystems, supporting threatened species, and giving back to nature—right in our urban backyard.

This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust under the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program, with the support of Second Nature Conservancy.
