Why did Council engage the Australian Energy Foundation?
A group of eight Sydney Councils worked together with Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils to develop Our Energy Future: The Renewable Energy Master Plan. The ultimate goal of this plan is to significantly increase the proportion of energy consumed in the area that is derived from renewable sources. The plan identified a need for a community energy advisory service, to help local residents reduce their energy consumption and improve energy efficiency. The Australian Energy Foundation was selected to provide that service for the councils.
Who is the Australian Energy Foundation?
The Australian Energy Foundation is a for purpose organisation, leading the way to an equitable zero carbon society. They accelerate the energy transition by empowering communities to take action. The AEF receives a small commission from the suppliers that they refer you to if you purchase from them. This allows them to continue running the energy advice services and supports their projects working with vulnerable Australians, to ensure no one is left behind in the transition to renewable energy. Every effort is made to ensure that they only select trustworthy suppliers and proven, reliable products and services. Read more about AEF.
With recent electricity prices soaring up to 30-40 per cent for many residents, it’s no surprise that solar power is on homeowners’ minds. Making free green energy on your own rooftop helps take back control of power bills.
With the highest rates of household solar power installation in the world, Australian’s are living up to their reputation as ‘sun-lovers’. Around 1.7 million Aussie homes now have rooftop solar, and numbers are growing. Low prices, climate change awareness, quality systems and killer bills are driving factors in this rooftop revolution.
Thinking about getting a slice of the sun-kissed action to reduce your energy bills? Check out these facts to help make your decision.Read more
This March marks the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour, a global initiative for raising awareness on climate change and ways to combat it. While progress has been slow, climate-friendly living has never been easier and more cost-effective now with low-carbon home solutions on our doorstep.
Better yet, these cheaper technologies today also mean bigger dollar savings for people doing the right thing: "The beauty is that the desire for low bills and low environmental impact now lead to the same answer - energy efficiency and solar," says Damien Moyse, Energy Projects and Policy Manager at the Alternative Technology Association.
There is still huge potential to grab these benefits locally, since our homes are getting more energy-hungry. Electricity demand in our area climbed last year, according to recent Ausgrid data. Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs also has one of the lowest uptakes of rooftop solar power compared to other regions nationally.
So as Earth Hour asks populations worldwide to ‘switch off’, consider switching to these alternatives to shrink your carbon footprint and boost your bank balance over the long-term. Let’s make that second nature!Read more
