Summerama 2022

Get ready for a Summerama like no other! From photography competitions and creative workshops through to treasure hunts, nature walks and beach clean ups there’s something for everyone to enjoy! These community led and Council events will help you get out and about, take action and appreciate our gorgeous local environment. Book one or all activities below:

 

  • Beach clean-ups (POSTPONED)

Join us for a fun beach clean-up in Bondi or Bronte. Bring your friends, partner or family, roll up your sleeves and help keep our amazing beaches beautiful!

Into running or exercising? The clean-up at Bondi will include a 4km run with 3 Bootcamp stops. If you don't like running, come for the clean-up part of it! 

When and where: Please note due to Covid-19, both beach clean-ups have been postponed. The Bondi beach clean-up has been rescheduled to Saturday 26 March. Book your spot for the Bondi clean-up here.

The Bronte beach clean-up is yet to be rescheduled. We will announce the new date as soon as finalised.

The beach clean-up events are run by local community groups Plastic Free Bronte, Responsible Runners and SeaBees, they are not Council run events.

 

  • Biomimicry Inventions

Join artist and scientist Laura Jade for a fascinating workshop looking at human inventions inspired by mimicking nature. Explore incredible examples of human biomimicry - the pursuit of invention through the study of nature and how it works eg. plane flight, velcro and fast speed trains all have designs based on animal and plant phenomena. You'll then get to choose a natural phenomenon to inspire your own inventions and artworks.

When: Wednesday 19 January (10am-11am / 6yrs – 8 yrs) and (1pm-2pm / 9yrs-12yrs)

  • Upcycled Masterpieces with Lisa Patroni

Join artist Lisa Patroni to elevate household waste, into artworks worthy of the Archibald! Learn how to combine colour, texture and tone with found materials to make incredible abstract artworks. You will never guess these materials were destines for landfill once you see what Lisa does with them. You may even surprise yourself as you discover unusual colour combinations you’ve never even thought of before. Through experimenting, you will also start to see more and more artistic potential in the everyday objects and waste of your everyday life. 

When: Thursday 20 January (10am-11am / 6yrs-8yr) and (1pm-2pm / 9yrs-12yrs)

  • Nature Walks (POSTPONED)

Explore magical Bronte Gully on a Guided Walk and connect with a little wilderness in our local 'hood!

Eastside Community Group (ECG) will take you on an informative and entertaining stroll from Bronte Park up to the waterfall, discovering plants, birds and other creatures along the way. The Gully will never look the same to you again.

WhenPlease note due to Covid-19, this activity has been postponed. We will announce the new date late February. Thanks for your understanding. 

Where: Meet near the playground at Bronte Park

The nature walks are run by local community group the Eastside Group of the Wilderness Society, they are not Council run events.

 

  • Find your Wild Treasure Hunt

Are you ready for a treasure hunt like no other? Team up with friends, friends or other locals and seek out nature’s local hidden treasures around the eastern suburbs. Claim the podium and win great prizes!

When: 1 to 30 Jan 2022

Staying Safe during Summerama:

  • Please remember to observe current NSW health orders at all times. 
  • If feeling unwell, please stay at home and get tested, and follow NSW Health orders
  • Always follow instructions from event organisers.
  • Remember to keep social distancing (1.5 meters) at all times
  • We encourage you to wear a mask
  • Face to face activities such as The nature walks and beach clean-ups are covid safe events. As such they are to be attended by vaccinated people only.
  • Always stay on the path, be mindful of your steps particularly around stairs, trees and rocks.
